There will hopefully be an exhibition of Posters from the People’s Republic of Poland [Polska Rzeczpospolita Ludowa [PRL]. On exhibition there will potentially be some extremely rare and largely unknown gems of graphic design.

Social Realism in Polish Poster.

Posters in the immediate post-war period in Poland were homages to the dreams of communism. Many hailed the Soviet Union and featured the happy proletariat.

By the end of the 1950′s Socialist Realism had been dumped in Polish art. The Graphic Arts Department at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts divided its areas of instruction into fine arts, visual communications, applied arts, and poster art. And with the help of artists such as Trepkowski and Tomaszewski what become known as the Polish Poster School was born.

This poster: Partia [The Party] was a Polish Propaganda Poster designed by W.Zakrzewski in 1955 and a classic of Socialist realism design. It was used and adapted all over the Soviet world. Extremely rare.

Stanislaw Zamecznik was a graphic artist, poster artist, scenographer and architect.

Maciej Hibner held exhibitions worldwide [including in London, Paris and Delhi] and won many awards and much admiration.

Mr T: The Posters of Jerzy Treutler

Exhibition of Treutler’s work is currently running at the Kemistry Gallery in London. http://kemistrygallery.co.uk/current-show

His work utilises bold colour, simple imagery and vivid lines to underline the strength of the message, and is distinguished by an abstract style typical of the Polish poster artist. Treutler’s posters are as fresh and engaging today as when they were first produced.

An Introduction to Wiktor [Vicktor] Gorka:

Wiktor Gorka [1922-2004] was one of the greats of the Polish School of poster design. A graduate of Cracow Academy of Fine Arts, he spent time in Cuba and Mexico where the Galeria Wiktor Gorka is situated.
